As part of efforts to raise environmental awareness and link environmental action to religious and societal values, the Union of Al-Fayhaa Municipalities, in cooperation with Dar Al-Fatwa, launched an environmental initiative targeting mosques in the Al-Fayhaa region during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative focuses on collecting plastic containers used by worshippers.
The initiative was launched following an official letter from the head of the Union of Municipalities al Fayhaa, Engineer Wael Zmerli, to His Eminence the Mufti of Tripoli and the North, Sheikh Muhammad Imam, calling for cooperation to expand the campaign to all mosques in the city, given its role in establishing a culture of environmental preservation and promoting positive behaviors.
The campaign includes placing designated containers for collecting plastic containers inside or around the mosques. The Union will be responsible for organizing and installing these containers in preparation for collection, in coordination with Lavajet. The launch of the initiative was attended by Sheikh Firas Ballout, Head of the Religious Department at the Tripoli Endowments Directorate; Dr. Munther Hamza, member of the Supreme Islamic Sharia Council; Engineer Tariq Samarji; Ms. Rania Al-Jamal; and Mr. Omar Al-Abyad.
This initiative aims to maintain the cleanliness of mosques and their courtyards, reduce plastic waste, and promote environmental awareness among worshippers, especially during Ramadan, a month that emphasizes the values of cooperation and social responsibility.
